A drum and bugle corps or drum corps is a musical marching unit that is similar to a marching band. It consists of brass instruments,
percussion instruments, and color guard. Drum Corps operate as independent non-profit organizations, and they perform at on-field
competitions, parades, festivals and other activities.
Formed in 1947, the Crusaders are a non-profit organization that provides quality instruction, focusing on an artistically and technically challenging musical and visual program.
Based in Rochester, New York, the corps aims to create an environment that encourages camaraderie, education at all levels and motivates its members to develop high levels of responsibility, teamwork and personal drive.
In our role as one of the nation’s oldest and most successful drum and bugle corps, we strive to bring the Greater Rochester community into friendly, competitive contact with musicians from across the nation.
• Education - The Crusaders staff consists of local and national educators, many of which have DCI experience. Our staff
proudly works with a number high schools, including Webster, Marcus Whitman, Oswego, Naples, Jordan Elbridge, Greece, Vestal, Mohonasen, and Kendall.
• Travel - Members get the chance to travel all over the North Eastern United States, performing in front of packed audiences.
• Friendship - By joining the Crusaders you join a family that spans 63 years. Over the course of the season strong ties will be made.
• Experience - Not only does marching a nationally competitive corps look good on a music resume, but it demonstrates many
traits that employers from all fields are looking for.
• Commitment - The Crusaders are active only on the weekends, allowing its membership to have lives outside of the activity.
• Preparation - For students wishing to march with a DCI corps, the Crusaders are a great way to get needed experience and to hone skills prior to auditioning.
